This is the Official Thredbo Jazz Festival site of Thredbo Chamber of Commerce, the organiser and promoter of the annual Thredbo Blues Festival and Thredbo Jazz Festival.. 2010 is our 23rd Jazz Festival year

Musical Director:

Thredbo Chamber is the musical director’s client and sets the broad direction of the Festival. Ian along with many Tourism Thredbo Executive Committee members has been instrumental in the development and success of Thredbo’s summer music festivals. Resort owner Kosciuszko Thredbo Limited also plays a key role in the success of the festivals supported by the Chambers’ staff, members and those indispensable volunteers.

John Speight, OAM, musical director of 17 Thredbo Jazz Festivals and
founding musical director of the Manly International Jazz Festival, passed away
on January 21 2007. He made an outstanding contribution to
Australian jazz.

In Thredbo we remember him for his love of jazz and its musicians. With years as an arranger and bandleader, he viewed the festival as a composition with various themes running, culminating a great jazz weekend at the Sunday Concert.
 

Ian Foster presenting industry identity Ken Sparkes with an award at the 2008 festival for his years of support to the musical direction of the Thredbo Festival. Ken’s long association with jazz musicians provides those anecdotes on just about everyone in the business! Ken also supervised the monumental back room tangle of gear and getting musos in one piece from gig to gig.
